A SPITFIRE plane is set to fly over Scotland tomorrow – and you might just be able to catch a glimpse of it.

The jet will take off tomorrow morning at 10am – and will visit all of Scotland’s cities and a number of towns across the country as well.

The iconic aircraft is most well-known for being used by British and allied troops during World War II.

The « NHS Spitfire » will journey over dozens of hospitals north of the border to pay tribute to health workers who have worked incredibly hard to save lives during the Covid pandemic.

The plane has the words « Thank U NHS » written on it as part of a project hailing the continuing efforts of doctors and nurses as they continue to battle the virus.

The flyover has been organised by The Aircraft Restoration Company as the Spitfire tours the UK over a three-day period.

And Scots can have their own names – or the name of a loved one – handwritten on the jet if they wish.

You can nominate someone here – with all funds raised going to a variety of NHS charities.

So far kind-hearted Brits have already emptied their pockets, donating a grand total of over £80,000.

The Aircraft Restoration Company said: « The aim is to lift the spirits of those across the UK, many of whom are still living in some form of isolation, whilst also thanking the hospitals, communities and individuals who have been at the forefront of getting the country through the pandemic. »

The NHS Spitfire will take off from Cumbernauld Airport at 10am tomorrow as it makes its journey around Scotland.

Residents in the capital will be able to see the aircraft shortly afterwards – as it flies over the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The Spitfire will then cross the Forth before passing over two hospitals in Dunfermline, giving Fife locals a chance to see it at around 10.16am.

The jet will then make its way to the Tayside area, where locals will be able to catch a glimpse as it passes above hospitals in Perth and Dundee.

After that the plane will head to the north of Scotland – as it pays tribute to healthcare workers in Aberdeen, Elgin and Inverness.

The Spitfire is set to land at Inverness Airport at around 11.30am for a two-hour break – before heading south again.

Glasgow locals should be able to see the World War II aircraft just after 2pm – with the jet passing over Falkirk and Stirling on the way to Scotland’s biggest city.

The jet will then fly over hospitals in Paisley and East Kilbride, before returning to Cumbernauld for the next leg of its British tour in Northern Ireland.
