GMB’s Thursday morning edition saw Kate Garraway and Alex Beresford hosting with some help from the show’s resident doctor, Dr Hilary Jones and news reporter Charlotte Hawkins. Early on into today’s programme, the duo did their sweep of the day’s biggest newspaper stories including one front-page which depicted Prime Minister Boris Johnson warning members of the public to stick to coronavirus rules in order for Christmas to be “saved” and Kate seemingly threw her support behind the headline, saying: “That’s the idea.”

As more parts of the UK continue to go into local lockdowns, there’s an increasing amount of concern going into the latter part of the year.

And today, it didn’t take long for the GMB hosts to discuss Boris Johnson’s latest update on the situation.

Kate soon continued the discussion, adding: “Yep, Boris Johnson has said on the front page of The Sun, ‘Stick to the rules so we can save Christmas.’

“That’s the general idea behind it,” she told ITV viewers, urging them to stick to the rules.

Today’s programme saw much discussion on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic after it was announced some parts of the country would be imposing curfews.

Large parts of the North East will go into local lockdown tonight, with parts of Birmingham having already done so earlier this week. It comes as the Government is also advising members of the public to make appointments for A&E.

As well as this, the hosting pair brought up the prospect of another full lockdown while speaking to a panel including journalist Kevin Maguire.

It was stated Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty is now advising the PM to undertake a two-week-long lockdown – but it’s not known whether these reports are correct.

Kate has publicly spoken about her own ordeal with coronavirus and husband Derek Draper’s battle with the deadly disease.

The host gave an update on her partner’s condition last week while revealing it was her 15th anniversary married to Derek.

“What an extraordinary thing. I won’t be able to see him today,” she told her co-stars last Thursday.

“I kind of hoped I would but it hasn’t worked out that way for the visit… But maybe it would be a bit strange anyway. So it’s a tough day.”

Going into more detail about how Derek was coping, she said: “He’s still here. There’s not a huge amount of change… »

Opening up on how she was feeling, Kate said: “There are so many seeming positives and then plungings.

“So, you have to think at least he’s here with you. You have a flicker and then a bad day but you just have to keep going.”
