Arsenal midfielder Folarin Balogun is a transfer target for Brentford but the Gunners are demanding an £8m because the 19-year-old decided to continue his contract until 2021
Arsenal are demanding £8m for academy starlet Folarin Balogun due to the teenagerâs decision to see out his contract until 2021.
The Gunners are facing a battle to keep hold of the 19-year-old as promotion-chasing side Brentford have registered an interest in him.
It has seen Mikel Artetaâs side demand an £8m fee – despite the midfielder not making a single first-team appearance in north London.
But Sky Sports have reported that it is due to a previous contractual conflict that Arsenal can charge that price.
Balogunâs assurances over first-team football, though, were not met by Arsenal, which saw the midfielder stick to his current contract.
That runs until 2021, meaning a fee would be demanded to get the Englishman out of north London.
It is not the first time Brentford have enquired about the midfielder, contacting Arsenal in January but they could not agree a deal.
The midfielder has enjoyed a prolific season for the Gunners, scoring 13 goals and making six assists this season for the U23s.
But Balogun appeared to tease an exit earlier this month, posting a snap of his boots on Instagram.
While he previously said: âI am the sort of striker that likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender and make runs behind them, similar to the way that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plays.
âIâve trained a few times with the first team and I feel that Iâve benefited from being involved with them, especially when playing against experienced defenders, which forces you to find different ways of getting in on goal as what works at lower levels does not always work against them.â
Arsenal may also struggle to keep hold of star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he dropped a major contract hint.
