Tory MP ‘arrested on suspicion of raping parliamentary worker’

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed a man has been arrested on four separate incidents involving allegations of sexual offences and assault dating back to last year

The man, who has not be formally identified, is alleged to be a former Tory minister.

The Sunday Times reports that the woman, in her 20s, is a parliamentary worker and came forward with allegations yesterday.

The man had been held at a police station in east London after being taken into custody early on Saturday, but has since been released bail.

In a statement Met Police told the Times: « On Friday July 31 the Metropolitan Police Service received allegations relating to four separate incidents involving allegations of sexual offences and assault.

« These offences are alleged to have occurred at addresses in Westminster, Lambeth and Hackney between July 2019 and January 2020.

« A man in his fifties was arrested on Saturday August 1 on suspicion of rape and is currently in custody in an east London police station. »

The woman was interviewed for five hours on Friday by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police, according to the Mail on Sunday.
