The Ibrox club are yet to lose a goal so far this season in the Scottish Premiership as they face Micky Mellon’s promoted side.
League leaders Rangers continued their fine start to the season with a dominant 4-0 win over Dundee United.
It was the first time since 2012 that the two sides have met in league action and it was 5-0 on that occassion.
But it wasn’t all good news for Steven Gerrard with FOUR players picking up injuries before and during the game.
Leon Balogun was named in the starting lineup but missed out after picking up a knock in the warm up.
Ryan Jack, Brandon Barker and Alfredo Morelos – who was a sub himself – all picked up sore ones during the game with the latter a particular concern.
Mickey Mellon’s men struggled to really get going during the game and Kent’s opening goal put his men on the back foot.
A second soon followed from Tavernier on his 250th appearance for the club before it went to half time.
Roofe added a third after he diverted Scott Arfield’s cross into the net and the Canada captain then got in on the act himself.
A successful day for Rangers but Dundee United will be concerned at a second 4-0 defeat in a row, and they have keeper Benjamin Siegrist to thank for it staying as low as that.
Dundee United looked like they might cause some problems to start the game but the opening goal from Ryan Kent completely changed the game.
But while it was a dominant performance by Steven Gerrard’s men, the home side did have issues with Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack, Brandon Barker and Kemar Roofe all picking up injuries
Mark Reynolds does really well to slow him down and the winger cuts in, but fires over the bar.
Shankland decides to go for the near post but McLaughlin puts it out for a corner.
Four minutes added on and the corner was cleared and Rangers edge closer to that clean sheet record.
Dundee United were making a rare foray forward and Rangers hit them with a stunning counter.
The Romanian cut back and found Arfield who curled it beyond the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.
It’s Arfield’s first goal since February – and that was also set up by Hagi.
It’s a great ball in and Harkes took the ball down and volleyed it in with a brilliant hit, but it hits the bar.
It then falls to Chalmers who fires over the bar but that was the closest United have come today.
It’s another really poor tackle and he just goes straight through the back of Roofe.
He links up well with Roofe and then slips it through the legs of Reynolds, he smashes it towards goal and Siegrist gets his hand to it for a corner.
It’s some nice play from Bolton – who is now back on the pitch – but the eventual cross is easily dealt with by Tavernier.
Rangers taking their foot off the gas a wee bit here and Gerrard was desperate to get a full 90 minutes of going for it here.
The winger goes flying down the wing and as he crosses it into the box he smashes into the post behind the goal.
That’s a nasty one but it’s just completely unlucky for Bolton and he looks to be in a lot of discomfort down there.
Calvin Bassey is starting to show why Gerrard was so excited for him as he takes a great run into the box and a couple of step overs there as well.
He might not have the same delivery as Barisic but he looks a capable player.
The corner comes in from Kent and Siegrist has to fist away from it going straight in.
Arfield has been excellent since he came on and he beat his man and pulled the ball onto his left foot.
His drilled shot looked like it might be going wide and Roofe slid in to slide the ball into the back of the net to make sure it goes in.
This time it was Davis and Arfield and Kent should have scored, but instead completely miskicked it and put it out for a throw in.
Next time it’s Arfield who goes close with Hagi setting him up and this game is 2-0 going on 7-0.
It then bounces back to Kamara who sets up the left back but Bassey’s shot is straight at the keeper.
Kevin Clancy didn’t even award a free kick for that tackle and it’s really poor.
Back to the game and Hagi goes close from 20 yards but that five minutes or so has probably ruined the flow Rangers had.
Shankland has also come on for the final half an hour in place of Nicky Clark.
The Colombian is taken off and Borna Barisic is also going to be replaced with Calvin Bassey and Scott Arfield set to come on for him.
That was a really disgusting tackle on the striker and you could see the gash on Morelos’ leg.
He cuts the ball back to Kent and it might slightly behind him but he still should score.
Morelos has taken a horror one from Edwards and his day might be over as well.
Barisic will go out wide to take it and Rangers are clearly wanting to get a big win here today.
But before that Barisic skips past the defender – and could have gone down – and then clips it to the back post but Siegrist gets a hand to it.
It then bounces back to Hagi but his shot goes just wide of the target.
Tavernier races down the wing and instead of picking out Hagi goes the other way to Kent.
He then found Roofe but the striker didn’t catch it as he would have liked and it was easily saved.
The United left back takes one in the face as Morelos tries to play the ball through.
He looks like he’ll be alright though and Rangers have started the second half well.
The half time whistle goes at Ibrox and Rangers almost had another chance just before the break.
But it’s 2-0 to Rangers as they go in for half time with Ryan Kent and James Tavernier scoring.
Rangers have had a big blow with Ryan Jack and Brandon Barker both limping off injured but Steven Gerrard will be relatively happy.
But Helander gets back and just eases the former Rangers striker off the ball and out for a goal kick.
It’s a great delivery in though from Pawlett and Roofe is the man there to take it away from Nicky Clark and concede a corner.
