Christian Pulisic has all the right tools and potential to be better than former talisman player Eden Hazard, talkSPORT has been told.

Former Blues stars Tony Cascarino and Frank Sinclair joined the station ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Arsenal, and waxed lyrical about the American winger who has turned plenty of heads in his first season in the Premier League.

Eyebrows were raised when Chelsea announced the signing of Pulisic for Borussia Dortmund last January for the tidy sum of £58million.

With Hazard’s move to Real Madrid already announced, fans were hoping the club would sign an immediate replacement and many of them were left disappointed with the arrival of the United States youngster.

But the 21-year-old has answered his critics with an impressive first campaign with the Blues, managing ten goals and ten assists in all competitions.

It’s not quite as good as Hazard’s return in his first season at the club, with the then-21-year-old Belgian ending his debut Blues campaign with 13 goals and 24 assists in all competitions – but injury and squad rotation have meant Pulisic has played around half the amount of games, with 33 compared to Hazard’s incredible 62 that term.

Comparisons with Hazard were inevitable for a player who shares much of the same skills and style of play as they man he was brought in to – eventually – replace but those comparisons are now looking to be not quite as inaccurate as many thought.

And former striker Tony Cascarino believes the player dubbed as ‘Captain America’ by Blues fans has all the right attributes to be an ever bigger star for Chelsea than his predecessor.

“I’ve watched Pulisic develop and become a real player,” said the talkSPORT pundit on the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“Looking at Hazard’s stats in this first season for Chelsea, he got nine Premier League goals, and I keep thinking, ‘was Hazard as good then as Pulisic has been in his first year’?

“Pulisic has got nine Premier League goals as well this season, and I think he’s going to be one hell of a player.

“Hazard was at Chelsea a long time, seven years, and over those years there were a few dips and sometimes he looked out of shape, but with Pulisic everything about him is professional.

“His pathway has been planned, the clubs he’s moved to to get to the holy grail of the Premier League, it’s all been programmed.

“And boy is he dangerous, he’s really coming on and I think if he stays at Chelsea he’ll prove better than Hazard.”

And former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair agrees, saying he could be the match-winner for Chelsea in the final and believes he’s shown signs in his first year that he could go on to be Chelsea’s next superstar.

“He’s been unbelievable for his first season,” said the 1997 FA Cup winner with the Blues.

“It’s very unfair to compare him to Eden Hazard right now, but what you can do is compare him to Eden Hazard when he first joined Chelsea, and that’s where you get a comparison that’s very similar.

“If anything Pulisic has probably had a bigger impact in his first season at the club than Eden did, so what the future holds for this player you can only imagine.

“He’s certainly in great form and I think he’ll have a key role to play today [in the FA Cup final against Arsenal – which is LIVE on talkSPORT!].

“This is a game about big players and big moments and I’m sure Pulisic will be prepared for that and will be one of the players that makes an impact.”
