The Scottish Government recommends Aberdeen and the area is reported to be in Tier 3 in its lockdown review this week.

The Northeast is currently at level two of the coronavirus restrictions, but concerns over an increase in cases, particularly in Aberdeenshire, could lead to an increase.

And bringing Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to level three is recommended, the Evening Express reports.

This means there is no need to travel outside of local authorities except for essential reasons, no adult contact sports outdoors. Bars and restaurants must close by 6 p.m. and are not allowed to serve alcoholic drinks.

Local officials will oppose the move and will hold talks with Deputy First Minister John Swinney today.

Douglas Lumsden, Co-Chair of Aberdeen City Council, said: “There are some areas of the view that we should be at level three. We presented our case to the Deputy First Minister that the data did not suggest that we were being moved up one level.

“Aberdeen has been hit harder than any other city economically. Further restrictions would be an economic disaster.

« We hope that the Deputy First Minister has heard the case we have raised and will assist us in our decision.

« I am grateful to Mr Swinney for calling us so we can bring the case for Aberdeen and we hope that he took what we said on board.

It happens that 369 coronavirus cases were confirmed overnight when three more Scots died from the bug.

The latest update from the Scottish Government found that since the pandemic began in 95. 058 cases were registered.

Three deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours. The death toll is at 3. 725, with 49 deaths recorded since Friday.

Ms. Sturgeon confirmed the latest numbers but warned that a reporting error could increase the numbers tomorrow and Wednesday.
