Neil Warnock also had some punitive recommendations for his players prior to today’s visit to Derby

Duncan Watmore’s marathon training at Rockliffe has shown he is ready to play a role for Middlesbrough.

The former Sunderland striker hasn’t played a competitive game since late February, but he certainly isn’t lacking in fitness.

« You (club analysts) told me the week before last that one day he trained 6 miles, which is unknown up here, the best by far, » revealed Neil Warnock.

Watmore signed a short-term deal with Boro last week after impressing Warnock in a lawsuit in Rockliffe.

He was an unused replacement for visiting Norwich City, but big and fast games will give the 26-year-old his chance.

Warnock said: « I didn’t think he was right on Saturday, I thought Sam (Folarin) would tie the left-back, we can all be right after the event. « .

« Hayden (Coulson, who was also introduced by the bench) did well in training too, so we went that route.

Boro is looking to get back on his feet for the first time after asking against the bottom club in the league after the top club of the league ended their undefeated run in ten games on Saturday.

Boro was ousted by the Canaries after Marcus Tavernier blocked his goal from touching the ball twice.

« Britt takes the penalties, » said the manager as he went through the pecking order for the spot kick taker.

« I’m going to speak to him because I don’t think anyone can have a run-up like Tav was doing in our seat at the moment. The place is not getting any better. « .

« We slip, we try different bolts, we have to go to the middle if we get penalties. «
