The repair shop is hosted by upholsterer and television presenter Jay Blades. He’s also the face of the spin-off show The Repair Shop: Fixing Britain, which delves deeper into specific repairs to examine how items affect the way we live today.
The « mostly self-taught craftsman » runs Jay&Co, a company that sources vintage furniture and hoe accessories to transform them into contemporary design pieces.
The repair shop is often home to visiting craftsmen from across the UK, but the regular team of restoration experts include metalworker Dominic Chinea, watch restorer Steve Fletcher, leatherworker Suzie Fletcher, cabinet maker and cabinet maker Will Kirk, and toy restorers Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell, Ceramic conservator Kirsten Ramsay, painter conservator Lucia Scalisi and specialist in antique photography Brenton West.
Four popular items are being revived for the barn Christmas special this year – and that includes a treasured rocking horse that was brought by a husband and wife and was a Christmas present for their five-year-old daughter, Tamsin. who tragically died two years later. The horse is being restored to give to her nine-year-old daughter, Hetty, who she can play with and remember the sister she never met.
A battered and broken stereogram is also being repaired by the team to convey beloved family memories to two sisters while 80 year old Christopher arrives in his special toy truck made by a team of WWII engineers run by his own Father, whom he received for Christmas in 1945.
A vintage Christmas ornament from America that has sentimental value is also being repaired.
If you have a valuable item that has seen better days and you think our experts can help, contact The Repair Shop now. All items must have « a festive feel » and « sentimental value, » says host Jay Blades.
