Police are investigating a major brawl on Bribie Island this afternoon involving around 30 people. A man is hospitalized as Australia Day celebrations get ugly.

Just after 3 p.m., officials were called to Sylvan Beach Esplanade to find an unconscious man on the beach after a witness alleged 30 people had fought.

Police say someone at the scene was armed with a knife while another man was pushed off a staircase.

He was taken to Caboolture Hospital in stable condition with a suspected spinal injury at around 3.20.

He was stabbed in the hand and taken to a medical center for treatment.
