From January 26, the Hermitage will return free tickets for students to the General Staff Building. It will be possible to get to the exhibition halls by such passages on any day of the museum’s work, the press service of the Hermitage reports.
Free admission for students was at the museum even before the pandemic. Then, in order to enter the halls, one could get a free ticket at the box office upon presentation of a student card. The visiting scheme has now been changed in the museum.
Due to the pandemic, the Hermitage works in sessions. Students can go to the General Headquarters for free sessions at 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00 and 17.00. in addition, on Wednesdays and Fridays, a session is introduced at 18.00. One session lasts two hours.
The number of free tickets for each session is limited. Accordingly, it is advisable for students who wish to visit the General Staff building a free ticket in advance on the museum’s website.
The selected session is allowed within 30 minutes from its beginning. Then the ticket becomes invalid. Students need to buy a full ticket to the Winter Palace and other buildings of the Hermitage.
It should be noted that in addition to students, pensioners traditionally went to the Hermitage free of charge. Due to the difficult epidemic situation, the museum temporarily refused to admit this category for free. The list of other beneficiaries has also been adjusted.
In particular, now all branches of the museum can be visited free of charge by veterans of the Great Patriotic War, members of the ICOM (International Council of Museums), as well as employees of museums in St. Petersburg.
